My newest book, Saving Apollo, is out now. It is a family-friendly novella about a dog genetically engineered to be the perfect service animal.
Apollo and his sister, Athena, are intelligent enough to understand not just command words but entire sentences. After a shakeup at the company where the dogs were created, Apollo escapes and finds his way to a quiet island off the Florida coast. There he befriends Ethan, a twelve-year-old boy who just moved there with his dad.
I started writing this book late last year. I believe it was the start of the Christmas movie season. My wife likes to watch those feel-good holiday movies like what you might see on the Hallmark Channel. I told her I cracked the formula and could probably write a story for the Hallmark Channel.
The formula is rather simple. A young man or woman, usually in their twenties or early thirties, travels from the city to a small town. There, they meet a local resident of the opposite sex. Sometimes, one of the two has a child who always seems to like the new person. There are romantic undertones, but usually, the couple doesn’t get together until the story’s closing. The sex takes place after the movie is over.
In this book, Ethan’s dad, Ryan, moves from the city to the small town and meets his next-door neighbor, Brooke, who happens to be the island’s veterinarian. Of course, I had to incorporate my personal touch into the story by adding a subtle science-fiction element.
Saving Apollo will be free as a Kindle eBook through Sunday, October 26. To get your copy, click here. As always, I need reviews. A review on Amazon, Goodreads, or anywhere else will be much appreciated.
